LAVERYS BACK BAR and BEER GARDEN
The Back Bar (aka Cobbles) has always been home to the more musically and artistically minded. Students mix with Backpackers, Workers with Dossers. It prides itself on providing an alternative in Belfast, a counter culture bar if you like. Something different yet familiar, something new yet traditional for the left of centre crowd.
Throughout the years it has provided a home for the followers of various music based movements including Hippies, Beatniks, Rockers, Mods, Bikers, Punks, Metalers, Beat Freaks and Indie Heads. It is Belfast’s bohemian bar and offers an unique blend of people, atmosphere and entertainment.
Music is the life blood of this bar and as you would expect the entertainment programme has been designed to encompass all aspects of real music. The jukebox library is constantly expanded to include more great music by more classic acts.
Each night on a weekly basis has its own dedicated sound or musical theme. You will hear all aspects of underground music from the last 50 years or so including Classic Rock, New Wave, Folk Rock, Punk, Reggae, Indie, Alternative rock, Electronica, Funk, Hip Hop, Roots, Ska, Prog, Singer Songwriters, Grunge, Country, Goth, Rock n Roll, Soul, Original R&B, Dub, Britpop, Rockabilly, Beats, Unplugged live acts, and Open Mic session.
The adjoining Beer Garden, an outside heated area for smokers, drinkers and eaters is wired to air all Back Bar entertainment. This is a first in Belfast as the smoking area feels part of the bar with the same atmosphere and entertainment. With a plasma screen and all weather speakers this beer garden reflects the character of this great pub.
Bar Food / Pub Grub served until 9pm daily with meal deals available.
And dont forget the Birthday Promotion where if you show your ID at the bar within a week of your birthday you'll receive a free bottle of bubbly.

Circus of Sound
The Roots of Rock by Dr John E
The story of rock music is a long and complex one from its birth as some kind of hybrid that evolved from Rhythm and Blues, Country and Jazz into what is now the most listened to art form on the planet with numerous subgenres, forms and styles.
The Circus of Sound showcases the development of the sound from the early Bluesmen and Rock and Rollers right through till when Punk appeared and starting everything all over again.
Muddy Waters, BB King, Big Bill Broonzy, Robert Johnson, Lead Belly et al laid down the roots for others to follow.
Rock and Roll / Rockabilly by the likes of Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Elvis Presley made the sound a global phenomenon inspiring bands to form to play the new sound on each side of the
Skiffle / Beat groups such as Them (featuring Belfast’s own Van Morrison), The Beatles, The Vipers and Lonnie Donegan came to the fore bringing a new energy to the music.
As the Sixties took hold rock began to split into various subgenres with Folk Rock, Blues Rock, Psychedelic, Experimental and indeed Heavy riff lead Rock all gaining prominence in various late night clubs, music halls and cafes.
By the dawn of the Seventies goliath scale acts seem to rule the world with massive tours by acts such as Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and Black Sabbath bringing the sound to the stadiums and festivals and an even bigger worldwide audience.
PERFORMANCE
Singer Songwriters, Unplugged Bands and Live Acoustic Acts.
Open Mic and Featured Artists.
Considered by many as the best place in
The night relies on both stellar regulars and the constant influx of new and unique faces bringing a large variety of styles and sounds to the stage. With Buskers, Troubadours and Session Groups basking in the limelight.
Performance enjoys having a reciprocity of influence, having older, more learned musicians playing side by side with individuals who may have never played live before and can both learn from the more weathered players as well as contributing their own unique sound and style.
Whether you’re a singer/songwriter looking to play your latest tunes, a band in search of a stage to play an acoustic/broken down set or an amateur looking for your first taste of playing music live (covers and originals welcome), the back bar on Wednesday night is the place for you! Just show up before
